Professional #

Here’s what’s happening professionally for me.

Job #

I closed my company, Lost Horse, and I’m starting the search for my next role. It was a good run, and I’m glad I tried. One thing it taught me is I’d rather spend my time on design than on running a company (I never wanted to be my own accountant or AP team). However, the last few years were gave me some of the best and most challenging work of my career.

Here’s what I’m after:

  • A team to join, full-time, fractional, or on contract. Remote from Southern California, with occasional travel.
  • Mission matters most for me, stage is secondary. I’ve done good work at early-stage companies and embedded with client teams. Consumer, climate, fintech, and more industries are on the table.
  • A role where I lead design, be hands-on, and stay close to the craft.

I’ve built teams from the ground up, turned struggling products around, and helped clients find modern ways of working.

Coaching & Speaking #

In 2025, I relaunched Nice Weather, my coaching practice. I’m taking this one slow, but it’s a joy to support people who want to build the career they deserve, especially in these really uncertain times.

I’ve given a couple workshops this year, one most notably at GitHub, in support of We Need to Talk.

Both are fulfilling, and I’d like to do more of them.

Development #

I’ve also been exploring vibe coding to solve problems I couldn’t hire an engineer to do. It’s been fun to explore what truly personalized software can be. For instance, I’ve created a music player app that does exactly what I want and reflects the ideal album listening experience for me. It’s called myTunes.

There are more, and I’ll write about them in time.

Creative & Personal #

I’m focusing on the joy of making. Whether it’s screenprints, art, or anything in particular. I’ve spent much of my life trying to market and capitalize on things. While it’s fun to make money, it strips the joy out of creating when there’s a little gremlin on your shoulder trying to force you into thinking about monetization.

I have two ongoing writing projects:

  • A collection of short horror stories
  • A cosmic metafiction book in the style of House of Leaves

I’ll either finish the metafiction project in a year… or ten. There’s not going to be much in between.
